On Tuesday (Apr. 30), Andrew McMahon — the former frontman of beloved pop-rock groups Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate — will unveil “The Pop Underground,” a four-song EP that marks his official debut as a solo artist. Before next week’s release, listen to the new track “After The Fire,” premiering exclusively on Billboard.com:
McMahon has developed a dedicated following through his past musical outfits, but “The Pop Underground” finds the songwriter exploring new sonic territory, just five months after Jack’s Mannequin played its final shows ever. Due out on Left Here Records, the EP was previewed by the single “Synesthesia,” released earlier this month.
Of “After The Fire,” McMahon says, “This song took some conceptual inspiration from ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.’ It’s about stasis and that moment where you decide it just won’t do, even if that means torching the place.”
McMahon has been touring in support of “The Pop Underground” since early April, and after performing at the Troubadour in Los Angeles on May 15, the 30-year-old will join O.A.R. for a summer trek beginning on June 20 in St. Louis. Check out McMahon’s full tour dates with O.A.R. below:
