Musical theatre icon Andrew Lloyd Webber has secured the theatrical rights to produce a stage version of the film “School of Rock,” about a group of privileged kids learning to rock under the tutelage of slacker Jack Black.
Lloyd Webber told CBC Radio recently that he’s “very excited” about the project, which will likely incorporate new songs from the the composer behind “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Evita.”

“There may be songs for me in it, but it’s also got songs in it as it stands,” he told radio host Jian Ghomeshi.
“School of Rock,” released in 2003 and directed by Richard Linklater, includes classic tracks by Led Zeppelin, Cream, AC/DC and The Who, as well as an original title song by the film’s writer Mike White. The movie was scored by Shudder to Think frontman Craig Wedren.
In the movie, Black plays a struggling musician who, desperate for rent money, poses as his straight-laced roommate (White) in order to get a substitute teacher job at a private school. While there, he befriends his students and embarks on a journey to instruct them the proper ways of rocking. Watch:
