After years of circling a Jimi Hendrix film project, Outkast rapper Andre 3000 has reportedly agreed to play the rock legend in a new biopic.
According to the Irish Film and Television Network (via EW), the rapper will star in “All Is By My Side,” which focuses on Hendrix’s stint in England recording “Are You Experienced?” The project will be filmed in Ireland and serve as the directorial debut of John Ridley.
While the world waits for another Outkast album, Andre 3000 (real name: Andre Benjamin) has stayed busy in the film world, knocking out supporting roles in films like “Be Cool,” “Four Brothers” and “Semi-Pro.” He teamed up with Outkast co-creator Big Boi for their film/album mash-up “Idlewild” in 2006.
Preproduction for “All Is By My Side” is reportedly underway, and the shoot is expected to last six weeks.
