Andra Day‘s reflective song “Rearview” was a perfect fit for honoring all the superstar athletes lost by the sports world over the past year, during the “in memoriam” segment at Wednesday’s (July 13) 2016 ESPY Awards.
Before Day took the stage, tennis great Billie Jean King paid tribute to legendary Tennessee women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt, who died earlier this month at age 64, five years after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis. King then introduced Day, who performed her Cheers to the Fall ballad as black-and-white images of late athletes (Kimbo Slice, Darryl Dawkins, Frank Gifford) played behind her. The video montage appropriately ended with The Greatest, Muhammad Ali, who is also set for his own ESPYs tribute later in the show.
