Following the dissolution of Phish, former guitarist Trey Anastasio has begun rolling tape on his next solo album. Late last month at his Barn studio in Vermont, the artist was joined by King Crimson/Peter Gabriel bassist Tony Levin, drummer Jerry Marotta and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski on select tracks, as well as Phish rhythm section Jon Fishman and Mike Gordon and Anastasio solo band trumpeter Jennifer Hartswick.
The as-yet-untitled set comes on the heels of April’s instrumental collection “Seis de Mayo,” which reached No. 18 on Billboard’s Top Internet Albums chart. Anastasio’s self-titled solo debut was released in 2002.
According to his official Web site, the artist will also guest on a track earmarked for jazz legend Herbie Hancock’s next studio album. Hartswick was on hand for that session, as were bassist John Patitucci, drummer Steve Jordan and percussionist Cyro Baptista.
In other news, highlights of the Anastasio band’s September appearance at the Austin City Limits festival will be broadcast Jan. 15 on PBS.
