The family and boyfriend of the late singer Amy Winehouse will be Anderson Cooper’s guests for the Sept. 12 premiere of his daytime talk show. Winehouse’s father, Mitch, mother, Janis, brother, Alex, and her boyfriend, Reg Traviss, will talk about Winehouse’s death as well as her life and career, Cooper told The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’ve followed her career for a long time,” said Cooper. “Her music is extraordinary. And she’s such a remarkable talent. What’s remarkable about this family is they’ve been so public before her death about trying to get her help.”
Winehouse, the British singer-songwriter with the vintage sound and very modern tabloid image, was found dead in her London apartment on July 23. She was 27.
The interview, which is scheduled to take place on Friday at the show’s Jazz at Lincoln Center studio, will examine the singer’s self-destructive behavior and her family’s attempts to help her.
“We want it to be a look at what happened to her and the struggles that she was facing and the struggles that the family was facing in trying to get [her] help and her incredible talent and career,” said Cooper.
It will be the Winehouse’s first appearance together to talk about Amy Winehouse’s death. And it is being promoted as an “exclusive.” Cooper said his producers have been in touch with the Winehouse family for several weeks.
“I’m glad they’re willing to talk to us,” he said.
Cooper broke the news himself Tuesday afternoon at the conclusion of an interview with the cast of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Standing in front of his studio audience, and a few reporters, he recorded several on-camera promos for the Sept. 12 premiere of Anderson, one of which included the Winehouse family exclusive.
