Amy Heckerling, the genius who penned the iconic phrase “as if,” is looking for a Cher worthy of the Broadway stage.

“We have another reading, and then hopefully workshops,” Heckerling told Vulture at last night’s Louis Vuitton premiere of Shelter. “If it were up to me, it would [open] tomorrow.”
At the top of Heckerling’s cast wish list is the queen-of-catchy Katy Perry. The “Teenage Dream” songstress could definitely fill Cher’s purple clogs.

“I love Katy Perry,” Hecklerling told Vulture. “But you never know what will happen. She has a whole big schedule.”
It may not say “R.S.V.P.” on the Statue of Liberty, but we totally hope Perry comes to Broadway in 2016.
