Indie Nacional Reords has paired up with Amnesty International and world music network LinkTV to record a track and video commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“Price of Silence” will be released exclusively on iTunes Dec. 9 and will feature Natalie Merchant, Angelique Kidjo, Julieta Venegas, Stephen Marley and Hugh Masekela, among others.
The track is based on “Canción Protesta,” a song written by Colombian duo Aterciopelados, which was re-written to address human rights issues. Aterciopelados are also featured in the project. The “Price of Silence” video will feature the UN General Assembly and all proceeds will go to Amnesty International. Actor Lawrence Fishburne will deliver an introductory message as part of the video.
