Kicking off New York fashion week, amFAR hosted their annual star-studded gala in support of efforts to end the AIDS epidemic. Honoring the legendary Roberto Cavalli, and paying an extra special tribute to icon Elizabeth Taylor, the evening — spent at at Cipriani Wall Street — attracted some of Hollywood’s and music’s biggest names.
Hosted by Sara Jessica Parker and with special music performances by Theophilus London and Janelle Monáe, the evening was a smash of all that is chic and melodic. Billboard’s The Hook hit the red carpet and chatted with shimmering attendees from Monáe and London, to models Jessica White and Erin Heatherton, to the esteemed Mr. Cavalli himself.
“You know, the music is part of my creation,” Cavalli told us. “When I created the man collection, I use the rock. When I create the woman, the evening [wear], oh my God I tell you honestly it’s sometimes classical.”
Since 1998, the amfAR New York Gala has become one of New York City’s most successful AIDS benefits, raising more than $12 million to date for essential AIDS research, prevention, and education. Learn more here.
