Veteran multi-instrumentalist Gurf Morlix will not be singing for votes on American Idol anytime soon.

The Fox singing competition — scouting for its 15th and final season — mistakenly sent the 64-year-old musician an invitation to audition for the show, according to a post on his Facebook page. Unfortunately for Morlix, the age limits for the show are between 15 and 28. Whoops.
The Idol email began with a personal greeting: “Hi Gurf…Thought you might be interested in this: We are in the final week of casting for our final VIP audition for the final season of American Idol! Interested??”
The next sentence was a letdown though: “We are looking for singers and artists of all styles, male and female, ages 15 to 28. These VIP auditions are for ‘industry and personal referrals’ only, NOT for the general public!”

It is unclear who referred the Austin, Texas, musician, who has a long resume, including playing for Lucinda Williams, Peter Case, Robert Earl Keen Jr., Mary Gauthier and Ian McLagan. Morlix is skilled at guitar, bass, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, harmonica and dobro, just to name a few of his many instruments. He has also released several solo albums.
