Following this year’s merger between America West Airlines and US Airways, the America West Arena in Phoenix, Ariz. will be renamed the US Airways Center, a conversion that is expected to be complete by January.
The US Airways Center — which is owned by the City of Phoenix and managed by a subsidiary of Suns Legacy Partners (owners of the Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury and Phoenix Roadrunners sports teams) — will retain that name for the next 10 years.
The arena recently underwent a $70 million expansion and improvement, which included a new exterior with glass walls and a new grand entrance. Now, the US Airways name will be incorporated throughout the building through exterior signs, on-court identification, concessions materials and staff uniforms.
