The national anthem isn’t the only patriotic song performed before the Super Bowl. Ever since 2009, “America the Beautiful” has been consistently sung beforehand. So halftime show headliners? Check: Jennifer Lopez and Shakira. National anthem singer? Still needs to be filled in (you can make your thoughts known by voting in the poll here). Now the “America the Beautiful” performer — who should it be?
After Lea Michele took the mic in 2011, her Glee co-star and touring partner Darren Criss would be a great fit. Ben Platt, another Broadway pupil and star of Netflix’s latest original series The Politician, could also make the cut.
Aside from these theater savants, country singers such as Faith Hill (2009) and Blake Shelton & Miranda Lambert (2012) have graced the stage ahead of the Big Game with their renditions of “America the Beautiful.” A new generation of country artists — Maren Morris, Chris Lane or Luke Combs — might be able to do the honors.
But with the Latin star power of Shakira and Lopez taking over the halftime show, bringing in other Latin pop stars like Enrique Iglesias or Romeo Santos could seal the deal for the Miami-set Super Bowl LIV.
So who should perform “America the Beautiful” before next year’s Super Bowl? Vote below!
