Based off the music video from her debut single, Amber might be the most popular star in all of K-pop.
The rapper/singer from girl group f(x) dropped her first solo single “Shake That Brass,” featuring Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon, with a video boasting loads of celebrity cameos. So far, we’ve counted…and take a deep breath here…Taeyeon and her Girls’ Generation band mate Hyoyeon, Jackson of GOT7, Park Joon Hyung of god, Min and Jia of miss A, Ellin of Crayon Pop, Brad of Busker Busker, Woori of Rainbow, Aron of NU’EST, Rome of C-Clown, model Irene Kim and comedian Ahn Young Mi.
But that’s not say Amber gets outshined by mega wattage of star power. Over a horn-laden beat that sounds like something Missy Elliot would craft up, Amber lays down rap after rap with her signature fire. While Taeyeon is on hand to add a few vocal lines throughout the track, Amber even jumps in to sing on the pre-chorus and hook.
The music video is a colorful, bold affair that sees Amber leading a band featuring her all-star cast of friends, hilariously partying in a laundromat and schooling dudes on a basketball court. The pop art-y visual feels like a near-perfect representation of Amber’s personality — known to be one of the quirkiest, and friendliest, in K-pop.
“Shake That Brass” is the lead single off Amber’s debut EP, Beautiful. Not only does the release put the 22-year-old in the solo spotlight for the first time, but it also showcases new musical sides of the L.A.-bred star.
The acoustic mid-tempo track “Beautiful,” revealed as a buzz track ahead of the EP’s release, showcases Amber’s gorgeous, vulnerable vocal deliver that was previously unheard when she’d handle the raps in f(x)’s in-your-face pop jams. Beautiful not only succeed in putting Amber in the right spotlight, but it shows there’s way more to this girl than filling the typical rapper role.
