The U.K. Amazon service, Amazon.co.uk, has confirmed that a “pricing error” resulted in hit albums being sold for just 29p (47 cents).
Although Amazon.co.uk has aggressively priced its new MP3 store, with albums as low as £3 ($4.88), the massive drop on titles by Lily Allen, Coldplay, Bruce Springsteen, Kings of Leon and Metallica yesterday (June 17) was a mistake.
“We can confirm that there was a pricing error on a small number of MP3 albums,” said the statement. “This issue has been rectified. Despite our best efforts, with the millions of items available on our website, pricing errors can occur.”
It remains to be seen whether the incident has any impact on the chart on Sunday (June 21).
