Online retailer Amazon.com has acquired CustomFlix in a move that will expand its specialty DVD offerings.
The Santa Cruz, Calif.-based CustomFlix compresses film or TV shows into digital files, creating a copy of the content on DVD for customer orders. CustomFlix DVDs also contain menus and special features.
The service is used by independent filmmakers and cable networks such as the Style Network, which recently signed a deal with the company to release the lifestyle series, “The Brini Maxwell Show.”
Other CustomFlix titles include “2004 Oklahoma City Gay Pride Parade” and “Break Dancing Made Simple Volume 1.”
CustomFlix titles will now be searchable through Amazon.com.
