Amanda Palmer, the Kickstarter wunderkind, will be distributed exclusively by Alliance Entertainment in the U.S.
According to the company, its recently-acquired Audiolife division will handle the pick, pack and ship to the Palmer fans who contributed to receive the physical albums, which depending on the funding level, is either CD, vinyl album, and/or a series of 7-inch singles from her “Theatre Is Evil” album. Her backers, who pre-ordered nearly 25,000 albums,, could also receive a hard-cover, full-color art book or a custom turntable, which Audiolife will also ship. Meanwhile, Alliance Entertainment will provide distribution to brick-and-mortar retailers and to online CD sites.
Rather than go with the conventional record label model, Palmer, a former member of the Dresdon Dolls, used Kickstarter to raise funding, to the tune of $1.2 million and is using Girlie Action to handle publicity, radio promotion, social media marketing and other traditional label-type services, while Alliance will handle traditional distribution.
“Amanda Palmer is a music and marketing visionary and we’re thrilled that both Alliance Entertainment and Audiolife provide a distribution solution for her groundbreaking new release,” Alliance Entertainment president Mike Davis said in a statement.
Kevin Wortis of Girlie Action Media, Marketing & Management, who has been assisting Palmer, said in a statement: “Amanda is on the cutting edge of music and art and marketing. It was only natural that she would team with a distributor who also truly understands this new world that brings together artists and their fans like never before.”
In other Alliance Entertainment news, the firm will be the video distributor for “Big Easy Express,” a documentary about the bond between indie bands Mumford & Sons, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show as they travel on a vintage train for an eight-day tour (The Railroad Revival Tour) through the American Southwest, according to a report on the screendaily.com site.
