The Allman Brothers Band, Counting Crows, Warren Haynes and Montgomery Gentry have joined the lineup for this year’s Farm Aid benefit, to be held Sept. 9 on Randalls Island in New York. They join previously announced performers/Farm Aid board members Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Willie Nelson and Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds.
Also on the bill are Matisyahu, the Derek Trucks Band, the Ditty Bops and the Supersuckers. This year, Farm Aid is rewarding two lucky fans with hotel accomodations, airfare and front row tickets to the show via a contest at TopOfTheHaystack.com.
Farm Aid, which is now in its 22nd year, will dovetail with a new biofuel initiative in New York. Beginning next summer, 30% of the city’s heating oil purchases will be required to contain 5% biofuel, with a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.
At a June press event in New York’s Union Square, mayor Michael Bloomberg said the concert is expected to infuse $13 million into the city’s econmony.
