The All-American Rejects are back, and so are their wildly entertaining music videos.
After teasing new music, frontman Tyson Ritter released a pair of tracks — “Sweat” and “Close Your Eyes” — Thursday (July 6), along with an 11-minute-long film directed by Jamie Thraves.
In the visual, Ritter leads a double life as both Robert, a suit-wearing family man, and Betsy, the cross-dressing sex worker he transforms into at night. And while the two new singles seem unrelated at first listen — “Sweat” being a thumping, anthemic head-banger along the lines of 2008’s “Gives You Hell,” while “Close Your Eyes” is a heartfelt ballad — the video ties them together by the finale.
We won’t spoil the ending, but things get complicated when, after a night strutting the streets in high-heels and a shaggy blonde wig, Ritter returns home to find his friends have thrown him a surprise party.
There’s more to come, too. The band, which features Ritter, guitarists Nick Wheeler and Mike Kennerty, and drummer Chris Gaylor, is looking to drop their fifth full-length in the fall, a follow-up to 2012’s Kids In The Street.
