It’s shaping up to be a breakout year for Brazilian singer Anitta. The 24-year-old is the hottest pop sensation in her home country, and since signing with Los Angeles-based management company Shots Studios in 2017, she’s got her eye set on United States domination. Her recent collaboration “Is That For Me” with fellow Shots Studio signee Alesso is her first foray into English-language recording, and it climbed to no. 25 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.
The two are fast friends, so you know Anitta had to bring Alesso through to Rio de Janeiro for his first Carnaval. According to a press release, about 600,000 attended Anitta’s annual block party as she and Alesso made their way through the streets on a boat-shaped float.
“This was my first Carnaval and I had so much fun,” Alesso is quoted in a press release. “Anitta tried to prepare me for how many people it is and the overall energy of the event, but you need to experience it to understand how awesome it is. Brazil is one of my favorite places in the world.”
The performing pair were joined by some of Anitta’s closest friends, each dressed in a different outfit from one of the pop star’s videos. They were also joined by fellow Brazilian stars Jojo Todynho, Xandavião, Clau, and Nego do Borel.
“It was amazing to see how many people showed up to celebrate this year,” Anitta is quoted. “I’m thankful that so many incredible friends, including Alesso, are a part of this event. I love performing in my hometown. The energy is unique in Brazil and seeing all of the happy faces is important to me. I can’t wait to do it again next year.”
Just a couple weeks later, Anitta made her US performance debut with two shows in Miami. The first was a rockin’ show at the Premio Lo Nuestro awards in Miami, and it was followed by a sold-out set at Miami’s legendary LIV nightclub.
“Performing at LIV has been a milestone for top artists, and Anitta has raised the bar with her high energy performance and quick sell out,” LIV owner David Grutman is quoted. “As part of the Shots Studios family, we can’t wait to see her domination of the US market.”
Anitta, for her part, was equally thrilled: “I’m so excited to be able to perform in the United States. I loved creating songs in English and I’m excited to bring a little bit of Brazil to America.”
It’s still early in Anitta’s North American expansion. Watch out for more from the pop star in the months to come, and don’t be surprised if she and Alesso continue to work together on dance floor.
