Alec Baldwin returned to reprise his impersonation of President Donald Trump during Saturday Night Live‘s cold open to celebrate Christmas at the White House. Joined by Kate McKinnon’s Kellyanne Conway, Baldwin was in “pouty baby mode” and wanted to be alone in his Oval Office to reflect on what he’s done this year.
He was quickly joined by the ghost of “witness flipped” Michael Flynn (Mikey Day). “It’s time to come clean for the good of the country,” Day implored him, a sentence Baldwin’s Trump had trouble understanding.
“Oh, Mike you were my man…if only somebody warned me about you,” Baldwin said, to which Day responded, “Well, Obama did warn you not to hire me.”
“I meant someone American,” answered Baldwin.
Three guests then visited. First came Billy Bush (Alex Moffat) to remind Baldwin’s Trump of the infamous Access Hollywood tape. “Can you believe I got fired just for listening to you?” Moffat asked. Baldwin wished him the best and Moffat made a subtle dig at recently fired Today host Matt Lauer: “I’m looking pretty good in the NBC news division right about now.”
Later a shirtless Vladimir Putin (Beck Bennett). “You must be my present,” Baldwin said.
“Listen, we put a lot of work into you…and you’re about to mess it all up,” Bennett’s Putin told him.
Finally, the last to arrive was a shrouded figure, who Baldwin mistook as Steve Bannon, commonly depicted on SNL as the Grim Reaper, but it was revealed to be McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton — an even scarier sight for Baldwin’s Trump. “You have no idea how long I’ve wanted to say this, ‘lock him up,” McKinnon said, laughing.
