You can’t avoid the impact of Donald Trump on popular culture in 2017. The Emmy Awards opened with a bevy of Trump jokes from host Stephen Colbert, including a self-parody from former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer. When Alec Baldwin took the stage to accept an Emmy for his recurring appearances as Donald Trump on Saturday Night Live, naturally, he gave the Commander in Chief a shout-out.
“I suppose I should say, ‘At long last, Mr. President, here is your Emmy,’” Baldwin said at the top of his speech for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. Like Colbert an hour earlier, Baldwin was ribbing Trump for his multiple Emmy losses for Celebrity Apprentice.
Before Baldwin, Kate McKinnon — who portrayed Hillary Clinton on SNL — won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Saturday Night Live. It was her second Emmy win in that category.
