A.J. Daulerio, former editor-in-chief of Gawker, has been appointed the editorial director of Entertainment and Music at SpinMedia. Delaurio began consulting for BuzzMedia – the former name of SpinMedia – in March, reports Poynter.
In an interview with Fox Sports Radio’s Jason Whitlock, Daulerio said he would oversee the editorial of SpinMedia properties Spin, Vibe, Celebuzz, and the Frisky. “Most of what I plan on doing is really just taking a look at the properties and how they can be a little more out there in the mainstream,” he said. “Especially with Spin and Vibe, these are publications that people have heard of, just in their current iteration it doesn’t seem like they have a lot of readership online. My job is to bring them up to speed on that level.”
The move follows several other recent staff changes at SpinMedia, including the appointment of Billboard’s Jem Aswad as editor-in-chief of Spin. Daulerio will “drive the direction and voice of several of our properties,” says SpinMedia CEO Steve Hansen in a memo to employees of the company.
