French duo Air’s third studio set “Talkie Walkie” (Virgin) has put an end to Dido’s 17-week run at the top of European Top 100 Albums with “Life for Rent” (Cheeky/Arista), which began in early October.
“Talkie Walkie” is Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin’s follow-up to 2001’s “10,000 Hz Legend,” which opened on Top 100 Albums at No. 8.
“Walkie” only has one No. 1 debut to its name, in Ireland, but takes the overall prize with various other strong starts, including No. 2 in the U.K. (selling close to 34,000 units), No. 2 in Portugal, No. 3 in France, Italy and Norway and No. 5 in Germany. It also climbs 100-19 in Holland.
Air’s European tour begins Saturday (Feb. 7) in Brussels, running until Feb. 28, followed by an April 2-May 3 run in North America, where the act is signed to Source/Astralwerks.
“Seal IV” (Warner Bros.) rebounds 11-7 overall after moving 3-1 in Switzerland. Its single “Love’s Divine” is No. 18 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles and No. 7 on the European Radio Airplay chart, compiled by Music Control.
Also entering the top-10 of the aggregate album chart, 12-8, is “Dick This!” by Dick Brave & the Backbeats (WEA), after a 2-1 move in the act’s native Germany.
“Attitudes” by French vocalist Lorie (Epic) climbs 21-15 overall, holding at No. 1 in France, climbing 3-1 in Belgium and debuting at No. 5 in Switzerland. Lorie’s single “Week-End” is No. 8 in France.
Sixteen-year-old English soul singer Joss Stone also makes an impressive 57-16 leap on the pan-European albums chart with “The Soul Sessions” (Relentless/Virgin), powered by a 14-4 climb in its fourth week on the U.K. chart. Stone finishes her first short British headlining tour tonight (Feb. 5) in Bristol.
Black Eyes Peas’ “Shut Up” (A&M) again tops Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, on which the highest new entry, at No. 4, is “Take Me to the Clouds Above” by LMC Vs. U2 (All Around The World). The club crossover, which debuts at No. 1 in the U.K. with sales of 68,000, features approved samples of both U2’s “With or Without You” and Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know.”
Longtime favorite French chanteuse Hélene Segara scores the big Eurochart singles climber as “On N’Oublie Jamais Rien” (Orlando/East West) jumps 23-7. It’s up 8-3 in France and 3-2 in Belgium.
Finally, “I’m Still in Love With You” by Sean Paul featuring Sasha (VP/Atlantic) takes a 34-16 hike on the singles Eurochart after a No. 6 debut in Italy. It’s at No. 10 in its fourth week inside the top-10 in the U.K.
