
Right before America’s Got Talent kick-started season 11, judge/producer Simon Cowell said he wanted to focus more on discovering new vocal stars. And on Tuesday night’s episode the former American Idol judge’s ears zeroed in on 16-year old cancer survivor Calysta Bevier, prompting the charismatic Brit to finally push his Golden Buzzer.
Bevier, a survivor of stage-three ovarian cancer, charmed the panel with her inspiring performance of Rachel Platten‘s “Fight Song.”

The Grand Rapids, Ohio, teen got a standing ovation and high praise from Cowell, who successfully predicted American Idol champ Carrie Underwood’s chart-topping success when she competed on Idol. He also has a winning track record with X Factor graduates One Direction and Fifth Harmony.
“I love everything about you,” he said. “I think you’re really special. I’ve got this really incredible feeling about you.” Cowell’s Golden Buzzer push catapulted Bevier — who previously appeared on The Ellen Show this spring — into the upcoming round of live shows.
