American punk rock band Against Me! covered “People Who Died,” originally made famous by the Jim Carroll Band, and is now available for streaming. The song appears on the upcoming compilation album, Songs That Saved My Life. which also includes covers from Neck Deep, Taking Back Sunday, Dan Campbell and Ace Enders, Movements, The Maine, Dance Gavin Dance and more. The full album will be released on Nov. 9, and all proceeds will benefit mental health and suicide prevention charities.
Against Me! guitarist Laura Jane Grace shared the importance of this album in a press release: “Choosing to cover a song that is filled with death to be featured on a compilation dedicated to the thought that music can save your life seemed completely fitting to me. I’ve always thought music was about taking all the sadness, pain, fear and trouble that you have weighing on you and turning it into something empowering, celebratory and life-affirming.”
