AEG has lodged an interest to take over the Olympic Stadium in East London following the 2012 Games in London.
AEG, which also operates the O2 complex in the capital, is among 106 parties that have expressed an interest in taking on the 80,000-capacity venue after 2010. Any potential bidders have to register their interest by May 17.
The company had a notable success with taking on a temporary U.K. government project and making it a long-term success: the O2 was previously the much-maligned Millennium Dome.
There are no details of any AEG plan for the venue. The O2 stages events including music and sport.
“AEG has expressed an initial interest in the future of the Olympic Park and, as the world’s leading sports venue owner and operator, it makes total sense for us to explore potential ideas for its future success,” an AEG spokesperson told the BBC.
Soccer club West Ham’s owners have also declared an interest in taking on the venue. A final decision by the government is expected in July.
