Heartbreak looks great on Adele, as evidenced by her despair-inspired sophomore album, “21,” which is 2011’s best selling album so far. So when the U.K. singer covered Bonnie Raitt’s iconic heartbreak ballad, “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” at the iTunes Festival in London last night (July 7), it was a stunning meeting of the minds (and it was almost as good as Bon Iver’s recent cover). Watch below.
No stranger to covers, Adele also took on the Cure’s “Lovesong” (which also appears on “21”) during the gig, calling the song “one of her favorite songs ever” and noting that the British band was “the soundtrack to her early life.” Watch below.
As equally breathtaking was “Someone Like You,” off “21,” specifically when Adele turned the closing track over to the crowd, who accepted the challenge and belted the forlorn ballad back. Watch below.
Adele’s performance at London’s iTunes Festival was her first following an intense bout of laryngitis, which postponed her North American tour.
