Adele‘s “21” (XL Recordings) sold another 130,000 units last week to win a third week atop the new U.K. album chart yesterday (Sunday). Jessie J‘s “Price Tag” (Lava/Universal Island), featuring B.o.B., started a second week at No. 1 in the singles chart.
The Adele album’s third-week sales were only 5,000 below those of a week earlier, and its total U.K. sales to Saturday night were 473,000. Its predecessor “19” spent only its first week at No. 1, three years ago. The new set’s first single “Rolling in the Deep” slipped 4-5 on the new chart, while “19” itself, back in the top ten of late, slipped 4-6.

Climbing behind Adele on the album survey were Bruno Mars‘ “Doo-Wops & Hooligans” (Elektra/Warner Music), 3-2; Rihanna’s “Loud” (Def Jam/Universal), 5-3; and Eva Cassidy’s “Simply Eva” (Blix Street), 6-4. Chase & Status’ “No More Idols” (Mercury/Universal) slipped from its No. 2 debut to No. 5.
Also climbing back were Rumer’s “Seasons of My Soul” (Atlantic/Warner Music), 9-7, and Take That’s “Progress” (Polydor/Universal), 13-10. In between came new entries for The Streets’ “final” album “Computers & Blues” (679/Warner Music) at No. 8 and much-vaunted British electronic newcomer James Blake’s self-titled Atlas/A&M/Universal debut at No. 9.
Roberta Flack’s TV-advertised “Love Songs” (Rhino/Warner Music) rose 20-11, her highest U.K. chart placing since a previous compilation, “Softly With These Songs,” reached No. 7 in 1994. In the separate multi-artist compilation chart, “Now! That’s What I Call Music 77” (EMI/Virgin/UMTV) dropped 1-6, and in the lead-up to Valentine’s Day, the Rhino/Sony Music album “Love Songs – The Ultimate Collection” jumped 8-1.
Jessie J’s singles success continues in the week that she will receive the Critics’ Choice award at tomorrow (Tuesday) night’s BRITs ceremony. North London rapper Chipmunk’s “Champion” (Jive/Sony Music Entertainment), featuring Chris Brown, had been on course for a No. 1 debut in midweek sales data, but finished at No. 2. Brown’s own “Yeah 3X,” also on Jive, rose 9-6.
Meanwhile, Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” (Interscope/Universal) worked fast after its worldwide media and retail debut last Friday (Feb. 11) to sell 60,000 copies in the U.K. in 34 hours, for a No. 3 debut. Rihanna’s “S&M” single rose 20-11.
