Footage of the pop star’s impromptu cover of “Spice Up Your Life” during a recent concert has been enjoyed by millions, including the original members of the British quintet.
Mel B (aka Scary Spice) has told reporters she’s been blown away by Adele’s acknowledgment of the veteran chart-toppers. “I’m very kind of flattered,” Mel B said Monday during a conference call promoting NBC’s America’s Got Talent, on which she serves as a judge. “I think all of us are. It’s great. It leaves me speechless a little bit.”
It wasn’t Adele’s first “Spice Girls moment”. The Londoner sang the girl group’s breakthrough 1996 hit “Wannabe” with James Corden when she appeared in the Late Late Show host’s “carpool karaoke” segment in January, the video for which has sailed past 100 million views. Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice) praised the performance as “genius.”
Mel B gushes: “I love Adele. I love the fact that she kind of tips her hat off to us and gives us props. I mean who isn’t a fan of Adele? So, to know that she’s a fan of the Spice Girls is definitely one for the books.”
The pop veteran has also hinted at another Spice Girls reunion. “We’re definitely in talks and we definitely want to make something happen, to be able to celebrate with our fans that have been with us for many years and celebrate the whole girl power generation,” she said, according to People.
