According to Irish folklore (and the 2010 Amy Adams film Leap Year), Leap Day is to engagements as Sadie Hawkins is to dances — when Feb. 29 comes around every four years, women can ask men to marry them.
Of course, women can ask men to marry them any day — but the point is, it’s a tradition on Leap Day, especially in Ireland and Scotland. So when Adele kicked off her tour in Belfast, Ireland yesterday (Feb. 29), the chart-topping phenom assisted one of her fans with a very public proposal [h/t MTV News].

Somewhat awkwardly, the proposal wasn’t a surprise — the woman, Hayley, had already proposed to her boyfriend, Neil, and he was considering it during the concert.
But when Adele brought Hayley on stage, she made him commit. “He said maybe,” Adele told the crowd, who booed. “You got to say yes Neil. You need to say yes, bruv… On three, everyone say ‘Come on Neil!'”
After the crowd started chanting, the peer pressure worked — he said yes. Don’t be surprised if Hayley & Neil get a superstar “Hello” on their wedding day.
