YouTube announced on Tuesday that Adele‘s single “Hello” had the most explosive debut of any video this year, having racked up 50 million views in its first 48 hours alone. The video, which bowed early Friday (Oct. 23), attracted as much as 1.6 million views in a single hour and is bound to reach 100 million in its first week.
In a blog post, YouTube trends manager Kevin Allocca dubbed Adele’s soaring track “one of the most-watched music video debuts of all time” and revealed that the singer’s YouTube channel gained over 400,000 subscribers over the weekend. Vevo previously announced that the video broke a 24-hour record with 27.7 million views in a single day.

“Hello” is the first track off Adele’s third album 25, due out Nov. 20 worldwide.
Meanwhile, YouTube also highlighted the early success of Justin Bieber‘s video for new single “Sorry,” which was seen around 20 million times in its first 48 hours, making it the third-largest music video debut of the year. That’s despite Bieber’s total absence from the clip, which instead features colorfully-clad female dancers. He too saw a jump in subscribers, adding 150,000 in three days.
“Sorry” is the second single of Bieber’s upcoming album Purpose, due Nov. 13.
