The odds are pretty great that British singer Adele’s latest album, “21,” will score the artist her first No. 1 album next week on the Billboard 200 chart.
Industry prognosticators suggest that Adele’s sophomore effort may sell between 275,000 and 300,000 copies by Feb. 27. That figure would instantly mark not just her best ever week, but the biggest sales week for an album since the Christmas frame last December.
“Rolling in the Deep,” the current single from “21,” rises 41-26 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week. It’s verging on surpassing the peak of her only previous Hot 100 hit, 2009’s “Chasing Pavements” (No. 21).
Adele, who took home the best new artist Grammy award two years ago, reached No. 10 with her debut album, “19.” It has spent a total of 70 weeks on the tally and has shifted 930,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Adele made history this past week in the United Kingdom, where she became the first living artist since the Beatles in 1964 to have two titles simultaneously in the top five of both the U.K. singles and album charts.
After Adele, it looks like the next-highest new entry on the Billboard 200 could come from either Bayside’s “Killing Time” or Patrick Stump’s “Truant Wave.” Justin Bieber’s current No. 1, “Never Say Never: the Remixes,” will likely slip to No. 2.
