AC/DC are on a highway to home. The veteran Anglo-Australian rockers will return to their roots early next year when their sweeping “Black Ice World Tour” visits a raft of stadiums down under.
The Australasian tour is tipped to begin with a visit to Wellington on Jan. 30 and Auckland on Feb. 6, although these dates were not confirmed at deadline. The show crosses the Tasman Sea for their confirmed Aussie touring leg which kicks off Feb. 11 at Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium, before moving on to Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and concluding March 6 at Perth’s Subiaco Oval.
Reunited rock band Wolfmother will support the Australian dates, which will be co-promoted by Garry Van Egmond Enterprises and Chugg Entertainment.
Each show will take five days to set up, and the rigs will be hauled by 48 semi-trailers. Most dates on the itinerary are separated by a full week, and Van Egmond admits extra dates could be slotted in.
Speaking to Billboard.biz, Van Egmond notes, “We’ve worked with AC/DC on six tours, dating back to 1985. This should be one of the biggest tours this country has seen.” Black Ice will be the band’s first homecoming tour since 2001’s “Still Upper Lip” tour. “They sold 180,000 tickets in 2001, but I expect they will double that business for ‘Black Ice,'” says Van Egmond.
Tickets will be priced at $99 Australian ($75.50) and $149.90 Australian ($114.30) and go on sale on May 25.
