Above & Beyond (Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness and Paavo Siljamäki) celebrated the 300th episode of their cult Group Therapy radio show with a live broadcast from one of the world’s truly iconic cities: Hong Kong. Billboard Radio China will join the radio broadcasting network to air ABGT300 on Oct. 6 on 105.1 FM in Greater Chengdu during China National Day Golden Week.
Previous host venues of Group Therapy milestone events include New York City’s Madison Square Garden, Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome and London’s Alexandra Palace, and on Saturday (Sept. 29), the annual electronic music pilgrimage visited the Far East for the first time.
Last year’s ABGT250 celebrations saw over 23,000 fans converge on the stunning Gorge Amphitheatre near Seattle, while the 2016 edition broke new ground when fans from over 70 countries made the journey to Amsterdam to celebrate 200 episodes of Group Therapy.
This year has already been eventful for Above & Beyond, with the group’s fourth album, Common Ground, debuting at No. 3 on Billboard’s album chart and topping the iTunes Dance charts in over 40 countries. A sellout tour of North America followed at some of the United States’ most prestigious venues, including the L.A. Convention Center, Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and Miami’s Old RC Cola Plant.
Above & Beyond shared their feeling with Billboard Radio China: “Last year’s ABGT250 Weekender at The Gorge was a magical experience but also left us wondering, ‘How do we follow that?’ The answer was to go for something completely different, and Hong Kong and the Far East represent a new frontier for Group Therapy, at what is an exciting and groundbreaking time for electronic music in the region.”
For fans who couldn’t make the trip, the whole event was once again broadcast live online. Watch the tantalizing ABGT300 promo video, featuring shots of Kowloon and Victoria Harbour and a new composition from Above & Beyond:
