As Godsmack topped the Billboard 200 albums chart this week with its third No. 1, here are some other notable moves on the chart:
UP 7 – No. 15 – Michael Buble – “Crazy Love”
Up 98%, according to Nielsen Soundscan. All four of his studio albums are on the chart this week, with gains likely owed to Mother’s Day gift purchases.
RE-ENTRY – No. 58 – Harry Connick, Jr. – “Your Songs”
Last week’s “American Idol” mentor gains by 531%.
RE-ENTRIES – No. 169 – Jeremy Camp – “Speaking Louder Than Before” and No. 187 – Matthew West – “Something to Say”
Both albums jump (347% and 281%, respectively) thanks to sale pricing at Family Christian, LifeWay and Berean Stores.
RE-ENTRIES – No. 129 – Frank Sinatra – “Nothing But the Best” and No. 194 “Classic Sinatra”
His catalog was the theme on “American Idol” last week. Albums are up by 81% and 43%, respectively.
DOWN 112 – No. 174 – Gogol Bordello – “Trans-Continental Hustle”
A drop due to its big jump last week, which was owed to its CD configuration debut after a week of digital exclusivity. This week, the niche act takes a completely expected slide (down 52%).
The Billboard Hot 100
Eminem joined an elite group thus week – “Not Afraid” became the 16th song to debut at No. 1 in the 52-year history of the Billboard Hot 100, according to Nielsen Soundscan. Here are some other notable moves on this week’s chart.
DEBUT – No. 9 – 3OH!3 featuring Ke$ha – “My First Kiss”
The added value of vocals by Ke$ha results in 190,000 first week downloads for the new single from the pop duo.
UP SIX – No. 11 – Lady Gaga – “Alejandro” – Hola “American Idol!”
Sales effect from hit show leads to top digital gain (up 70% to 133,000). Song is also a legitimate radio hit, becoming her seventh straight top 10 on Mainstream Top 40 chart.
DEBUT – No. 16 – Glee Cast – “Total Eclipse of the Heart”
Another five debuts this week from the Glee troupe. Act’s take on Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 chart-topper gives the cast its second-best single-week sales sum, surpassed only by its debut release, “Don’t Stop Believin’” (177,000) last June.
UP 26 – No. 36 – The Black Eyed Peas – “Rock That Body”
Five singles into “The E.N.D” and BEP are still going strong. Song takes second biggest percentage gain on Hot 100 Airplay chart (up 45%) while downloads nearly double to 41,000.
DOWN 1 – No. 47 – Christina Aguilera – “Not Myself Tonight”
Not a good sign. In only its fourth week on the chart, radio airplay is down 11%, even though download sales improve for the week (up 21%)
