VOTE FOR CHANGE: The week kicks off with a bang as the all-star finale of the Vote for Change tour will be broadcast live from Washington, D.C. on the Sundance Channel. The event will feature Bruce Springsteen, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, Babyface, Jackson Browne, Dixie Chicks, John Fogerty, Jurassic 5, Dave Matthews Band, John Mellencamp, Bonnie Raitt, James Taylor and Keb’ Mo’. That’s not exactly chopped liver, you know?
OK… If you’re a regular reader of this site, then you’re familiar with the tour, which has received extensive coverage here and throughout the media, music and general. So, you know that the tour carries an anti-George Bush message and is raising money to be used in delivering a loss when Americans go to the polls next month.
Not unlike Michael Moore’s similarly themed documentary “Fahrenheit 9/11,” the opinion of these musicians is worth hearing and weighing as the election approaches. Your mind may not be changed by what they say and their enthusiasm for their cause may reinforce your choice for either the incumbent Bush or his Democratic rival, John Kerry. Either way, there will be an awful lot of good music being performed, in addition to a documentary directed by Albert Maysles and DA Pennebaker.

HONORING HIP HOP: Last week, VH1 took the time to honor the pillars of hip-hop. It was something that has been a long time coming, and some of the movement’s biggest names were on hand in New York for the event. the show celebrated influential pioneers in the genre: DJ Hollywood, DJ Kool Herc, KRS-One, Public Enemy, Rock Steady Crew, Run-DMC, Tupac Shakur and Sugar Hill Gang.
Tune in to VH1 on Tuesday night to catch highlights of the ceremony, which boasted Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Kid Rock, Fat Joe, MC Hammer and Sugar Hill Gang, among others, performing in all-star collaborations.

• Monday: Country titan Clint Black makes a special guest appearance on the NBC drama “Las Vegas.”
• Tuesday: The reunited Duran Duran will be performing live on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
• Wednesday: The Libertines will perform on NBC’s “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” which will also boast an interview with the feisty “South Park”/”Team America” duo Matt Stone and Trey Parker.
• Thursday: Slash and Scott Weiland will bring the Velvet Revolver show to NBC’s “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”
• Friday: Jennifer Lopez somehow got the nod to be among the esteemed who sit with James Lipton on Bravo’s “Inside the Actors Studio.” Tune in to hear what are sure to be groundbreaking insights on “Gigli” and “Maid to Order.”
• Saturday: Andy Griggs takes center stage on Great American Country’s broadcast of “Grand Ole Opry Live.” Later, catch singer/songwriters Patty Griffin and Damien Rice on PBS’ “Austin City Limits.”
• Sunday: My tolerance for reality television periodically rises and falls. But you can’t knock the good ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” does for deserving families. Tune in this week when Lee Ann Womack performs for a family that truly fits the bill.
