Like it or not, Clay Aiken is a hot property. It may not be you that loves the skinny Southern “American Idol” runner-up’s smooth vocals, but it’s an easy bet that someone you know does. It could be your kid sister or your mom. Maybe it’s the guy at the deli or even the bus driver you see every day. No matter if it’s one or all of ’em, this is their week when it comes to Clay and TV.
The Clay-hem starts Monday night, with a performance on NBC’s “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.” On Tuesday, the day his debut album “Measure of a Man,” is released by RCA, he’ll stop by to see the screaming girls at MTV’s “Total Request Live.”
On Wednesday, he’ll get up early to visit ABC’s “Good Morning America.” On Thursday, he’ll rest, and he’ll need it, because on Friday he’ll need to fend off the ladies of “The View” (ABC).
Without a blockbuster event this week to provide a prime stargazing opportunity, you’ll have to poke around a bit. Following Justin Timberlake‘s turn on “Saturday Night Live” last week, look for Britney Spears on this week’s show. While he hosted and performed, she’d just performing. But don’t be surprised to see her pop up in a skit or two, as she’s done so in the past.
The angst ridden modern crowd will want to catch Dashboard Confessional Tuesday night on NBC’s “Late Night With Conan O’Brien,” Good Charlotte Thursday on “TRL,” the Distillers on “Jimmy Kimmell Live” (ABC) Thursday and Radiohead on Letterman on Friday.
Old school alt rockers can catch the Violent Femmes Tuesday on the UPN series “Rock Me Baby,” where they’ll perform a rendition of the Johnny Cash staple “Ring of Fire.” There’s also a Paul Weller performance Monday on Kilborn’s show, and though it may be a borderline guilty pleasure, the Bangles Wednesday on the syndicated “Wayne Brady Show.”
Jam band fans can check out String Cheese Incident Wednesday on “The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn” and Jonny Lang the same night on “The Late Show With David Letterman,” both on CBS.
If you prefer the pop rock vein, indulge in Barenaked Ladies Tuesday night on Leno and/or Fountains Of Wayne and the immortal Cheap Trick Tuesday on VH1’s “Experience Presented by Sony Ericsson.”
Classic rock? There’s the Who’s lead singer hosting another episode of the History Channel’s “Extreme History With Roger Daltrey” (this week he’s “Surviving the Wild West”), Rod Stewart Friday on “Good Morning America” (although he’ll be singing standards), as well as the aforementioned Cheap Trick appearance.
R&B/hip-hop fans should watch the Black Eyed Peas Tuesday on the syndicated “Live With Regis & Kelly,” as well as newcomer Nodesha on Nickelodeon’s “All That.” Like it mellow? Take Seal on “The View” on Thursday. Old school? Donna Summer‘s on NBC’s “Today” on Saturday.
And, if you’re a little bit country, you’ve got a lot of places to turn. Highlights include Buddy Jewell on a Nashville episode of ABC’s “Primetime Monday” and Dierks Bentley late that night on Kimmell. Bela Fleck & the Flecktones will groove up Conan on Friday and Terri Clark and Marty Stuart will throw down on “CMT Most Wanted Live” on Saturday.
