U.K. download store 7digital.com has partnered with AOL’s free Winamp media player to offer users the opportunity to purchase MP3s directly via the application.
Winamp claims 77 million users worldwide, based on comScore Media Metrix data, and 7digital.com is now incorporated into the Winamp media player using the download store’s application programming interface, giving users access to a catalog of more than 6 million MP3s through the ‘Now Playing’ menu.
7digital.com will act as Winamp’s download in ten regions in Europe: the U.K., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Austria, Portugal and Ireland.
“We opened the API platform to developers last year to encourage anyone, from multinational retailers to bedroom developers, to create a range of music applications and services,” said Ben Drury, CEO of 7digital, in a statement. “This, combined with our European network of download stores, has allowed Winamp to create a first-class music discovery offering”.
