50 Cent has never shied away of showing his respect and appreciation for his manager, the late Chris Lighty. But the rapper still has difficulty accepting that the hip-hop mogul took his own life.
“I got the phone call. It’s almost like the noise turned off. I was just like, ‘nah, I couldn’t actually see him killing himself.’ I can’t really believe that I just heard you say that to me,” 50 Cent says on tonight’s episode of VH1’s Behind the Music.
“Chris Lighty was a huge portion of my actual career,” 50 continues. “It’s difficult to a adjust to not have someone around that’s in your life, in your life.”

“Till this day, I don’t believe he killed himself,” the rappers says. He heard the news on August 30, before prepping to shoot the music video for “New Day.”
“Chris Lighty was a real cocky guy. To me it just didn’t make sense,” Tony Yayo says of Lighty. “People saying that he killed himself over finances and money, I really don’t see that. If he was broke, he could go out and make a million dollars the next day that easily. He’s a hustler, just like 50.”
“I know 50 is still hurting, he may not show it. He’s not good at showing pain, but I know he’s hurting inside still,” Yayo says of 50 Cent.
The episode, airing at 10pm EST, also briefly explores his relationship with Chelsea Handler and the rapper’s “trust issues.”
