50 Cent’s “The Massacre” (Interscope) rebounds 4-1 on European Top 100 Albums. The set debuted at the top four weeks ago but was displaced the following week by Jennifer Lopez’s “Rebirth” (Epic). Moby’s “Hotel” (Mute) took the top spot for the last two weeks; this week, it drops to No. 2.
“The Massacre” climbs 7-4 in Greece, 5-4 in the United Kingdom and Switzerland, 8-5 in Austria, 7-6 in Germany and 8-7 in France. 50 Cent’s last album, “Get Rich or Die Tryin,’ ” opened at No. 9 on the pan-European chart in February 2003 and reached a peak of No. 3 in its fifth week. Meanwhile, the rapper’s track “Candy Shop” is up 3-2 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles, after rising 2-1 in Switzerland, 7-3 in Germany, 15-5 in Austria and holding at No. 3 in Norway.
Canadian jazz/AC vocalist Michael Bublé holds steady at No. 3 with “It’s Time” (Reprise), which is No. 1 in Italy for a fourth week and rises 6-2 in Holland. The single “Home” is a new entry on the British chart at No. 31.
The highest debut on Top 100 Albums, at No. 6, is New Order’s eighth studio set, “Waiting for the Sirens’ Call” (London). It opens in the United Kingdom at No. 5, on first-week sales of 25,000 units. The band first made the top 10 of the British albums chart 22 years ago, during its days on influential indie label Factory, with “Power Corruption and Lies.”
New at No. 8 on Top 100 Albums is “Am Ende Der Sonne” (Volker Hor), the second solo album by Berlin-born rock artist Farin Urlaub. It debuts at No. 1 in Germany and No. 2 in Austria. The 41-year-old Urlaub starts a German tour May 16 in Hamburg.
The Killers’ “Hot Fuss” (Lizard King) moves back up 24-20 on Top 100 Albums and continues to show great staying power in its prime market, the United Kingdom. It’s steady there at No. 10 in its 43rd chart week, with triple-platinum certification for 900,000 shipments.
On the Eurochart, Mario’s “Let Me Love You” (J/Sony BMG) starts a second week at No. 1. It falls 2-3 in the United Kingdom and Denmark and 3-4 in Italy but holds at No. 2 in Holland. In Germany and Switzerland, it rises 3-2, and in Norway, 9-5. Sony BMG has scheduled follow-up single “Here I Go Again” for British release on June 27.
Mariah Carey’s “It’s Like That” (Island/Def Jam), which crept onto the Eurochart last week at No. 78, soars to No. 8. It’s helped by a U.K. start at No. 4, with sales of 21,000 units.
The Eurochart’s top debut, at No. 9, is Gregory Lemarchal’s “Ecris L’Histoire” (Mercury), which arrives at No. 2 in France. Lemarchal has risen to fame in France via the “Star Academy 4” TV talent series.
