OTHER ‘IDOLS’Hi,
I really loved “American Idol” and thought that Kelly Clarkson is a wonderful performer. But through the entire show my favorite was Tamyra Gray. I was just wondering if you knew anything of whether or not she got a record deal. If so, is she working on her album and when is it due?
Thank you a lot,
MarkHi Mark,
According to an interview with RCA records general manager Richard Sanders in Billboard’s sister publication The Hollywood Reporter, Tamyra Gray, Justin Guarini, and Nikki McKibbin were all signed to the label. Sanders said that all three will have singles out before December, and studio albums in stores before the next season of “American Idol” begins.
The second installment of “Idol” is due to begin early next year on Fox. In the meantime, “Idol” winner Kelly Clarkson moved to No. 2 this past week on Billboard’s Hot 100 with “A Moment Like This,” after spending two weeks at the top. On The Billboard 200, the “American Idol: Greatest Moments” album debuted at No. 4.
SPECIALTIES FROM TORIHi Keith,
I have learned that Tori Amos’ new album, “Scarlet’s Walk,” will also be released as a “Special Limited Edition” which includes a DVD. Any idea what the DVD will contain? Also, Tori recently signed with a new record company. Is there any chance that her old videos will be released as DVDs?
Thanks,
MickeyHi Mickey,
Reportedly, the bonus DVD will include some music videos, an audio commentary by Amos, and a photo gallery (presumably a sort of “road trip photos” of Scarlet’s trip across the U.S.). The CD itself will also be enhanced, and you’ll be able to connect to a special Web site where you will be able to download additional songs and special footage from Amos’ tour.
The Epic album is due out Oct. 29. It’s her first effort since parting ways with Atlantic. Her last disc, 2001’s “Strange Little Girls,” peaked at No. 4 on The Billboard 200.
SINGULARLY ‘DIRRTY’?Hi Keith,
I was wondering if RCA is planning to release a retail single for Christina Aguilera’s “Dirrty.” I know the label released a vinyl version of it, but I’m hoping for a CD single release. She’s had such great success with her past singles (three solo No. 1 hits on the Hot 100, all having retail singles available) and I’m afraid that not releasing “Dirrty” in stores may hurt her chances of reaching the top-10, let alone No. 1.
Thanks,
Adam R.Hello Adam,
There are no plans to commercially release a CD single of Christina Aguilera’s “Dirrty” in the U.S. At this point, only a 12″ vinyl release is on the horizon. The track is at No. 50 on the Hot 100 this week.
The cut is from her forthcoming album, “Stripped,” due Oct. 29 from RCA. It’s the follow-up to her 1999 self-titled debut set, which debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 7.9 million copies in the U.S., according to SoundScan.
