Actor Jared Leto’s band 30 Seconds To Mars are battling with U.K. rock act Bullet For My Valentine in the Kerrang! Awards, with both groups securing four nominations.
The two bands will go head to head in two categories including best single, with nods for “From Yesterday” by 30 Seconds To Mars and “Waking The Demon” by Bullet For My Valentine. The best single category also includes Welsh band Kids In Glass Houses along with Canadian pop-punk act Simple Plan and Australian-formed, London-based crossover group Pendulum.
“Waking The Demon” is also up for best video, while 30 Seconds To Mars are nominated for “Beautiful Lie”. Other contenders include Weezer for “Pork and Beans”, Coheed And Cambria for “Feathers” and Gallows for “Starin’ At Th Rude Bois”.
The U.K. rock weekly’s annual awards ceremony will be staged on Aug. 21 in London. The nominations were cast online and by votes submitted to the magazine by the readers.
30 Seconds To Mars are also nominated for best international band, along with My Chemical Romance, Madina Lake, Coheed And Cambria and Avenged Sevenfold. Leto’s group’s final nomination is for best live band, where they will compete with Lostprophets, Machine Head, The Dillinger Escape Plan and Avenged Sevenfold
As well as being given the nod for best British band alongside Lostprophets and Biffy Clyro, Bullet For My Valentine are also nominated for best album with “Scream, Aim, Fire” (20/20 Entertainment/Jive/Zomba) alongside released by Avenged Sevenfold, In Flames, Mindless Self Indulgence and Cancer Bats.
Special awards announced on the night include the Kerrang! Icon, The Kerrang! Hall of Fame, and the Inspiration and Spirit Of Independence awards.
