Digital music service provider 24-7 Entertainment today reported that it distributed 10 million full-length audio tracks and music videos in Europe during April.
The figure, up 732% from the same period in 2007, was given a huge boost by the recent launches of TDC’s Play in Denmark and Omnifone’s MusicStation in the U.K., two of the 40 services 24-7 powers in Europe.
Frank Taubert, CEO of 24-7 Entertainment, is adamant the majors’ gradual acceptance of the MP3 format will drive the market to dramatic sales rises. “According to our estimates, 24-7 expects to reach 130 million downloads by the end of the year,” Taubert comments. The company claims 70% of its 3.5 million-track catalog, is in the MP3 format.
With offices in Berlin, London, Copenhagen and Barcelona, 24-7 has partnerships in 13 European markets.
The company says it is expanding its product range to cover feature films and TV series.
