Paquita la del Barrio, the sassy Mexican entertainer who sings about broken hearts and cheating men, will be the next biographical musical series for Univision, the network announced.
As part of the Spanish-language network’s upfront presentations, the series Paquita la del Barrio is “the fictionalized life story of the beloved Mexican singer,” according to Univision.
The singer, who earlier this year attended the launch of the series in her native Mexico, said the story of her life is hard to watch because there has been so much heartache, but she was pleased that her story was being told. She even hinted at writing a book.

“I haven’t started [writing] because I’ll start crying,” la del Barrio said. “First the series, then perhaps the book.”
Univision also announced L.I.K.E. (Life Institute of Knowledge and Evolution), a new program about teenagers and Gen Z entrepreneurs with opposing socio-cultural backgrounds challenging the norms around them as they learn about love, life and music. The network is hinting that this may be the start of a new teen musical group like the pop band RBD, which was first a series before the cast became a popular band with a following of fans around the world.
