The Rude Boyz — the production duo behind many of Maluma’s greatest hits, including “El perdedor” and, most recently, Shakira’s “Chantaje” — have signed a long-term, worldwide publishing deal with Sony ATV Latin, Billboard has learned.
“The Rude Boyz are that rare combination of hunger, discipline, and pure, raw talent. This is only the beginning,” said Jorge Mejia, Sony/ATV’s president for Latin America and U.S. Latin.
The Rude Boyz (real names Kevin Jimenez and Bryan Lezcano) hail from Medellín, Colombia, and have been working for several years with Maluma and other Colombian urban acts. The pair’s first major hit was Maluma’s “Borro Cassette,” which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay, Latin Rhythm and Tropical Airplay charts.
The duo also produced “El Perdedor” and “Chantaje,” the Shakira track featuring Maluma that debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart last month and entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 96.
