Telemundo and the Jenni Rivera estate are joining forces to produce a number of projects based on the late Mexican regional singer’s life.
The exclusive deal with Jenni Rivera Enterprises (JRE) includes a bio-musical television series based on her life, tribute concerts starting in 2017 and multiple “Jenni Vive” annual specials associated with Jenni’s Love Foundation.
“We are excited to partner with Telemundo and NBCUnviersal family to bring to the world the only official television series based on Jenni’s life,” said JRE in a statement. “Jenni’s extraordinary career, passion for life and infinite love for her family are a story never before told on television. Telemundo and JRE are dedicated to together growing Jenni’s powerful legacy through this series, the music tribute concerts and other historic projects.”
It was previously announced that NBCUniverso, formerly known as Mun2 and home to Rivera’s successful reality show I Love Jenni, is also developing a reality series called The Riveras, featuring the Diva de la Banda’s children. Jenni’s estate also confirmed a biopic is also in the works although no further details have been revealed.
Telemundo is not the only major Spanish-language network developing Jenni Rivera projects; Univision announced during upfronts it will produce a TV series based on Rivera’s life titled Su verdadero nombre era Dolores (Her Real Name Was Dolores), which will be told through the perspective of the late singer’s former manager, Pete Salgado.
The “Ya lo sé” singer died in 2012 in a plane crash at age 43.
