Steve Aoki stopped by to chat with Billboard’s Griselda Flores and Justino Aguila on the red carpet at the Billboard Latin Music Awards on Thursday (April 26), discussing his crossover into Spanish language music, which artists are currently inspiring him and more.
“I’ve always been inspired by reggaeton,” he adds. “I’ve been inspired by Latin music for a long time, and I have an extremely passionate Latin fanbase. I’ve been going down to Central America, South America for over a decade, so it’s about time I finally did a song entirely sung in Spanish, so I’m very happy about that, and it’s actually opened the door for me to do more songs and more music with Latin artists, so on the horizon there will be more Latin Aoki music coming.”
Asked which artists he is currently inspired by, Aoki mentions J Balvin, Bad Bunny and Nicky Jam. “Those guys are just doing something really exciting for the culture and just for music in general,” he tells Billboard. “It’s bridging Latin music to the world where you don’t have to necessarily speak the language to vibe and have a good time with it.”
