Salsa is still alive. The proof? Sony Music Latin has partnered with Fania and CTMOBS on a new television series called Sangre Nueva.
Expected to launch in early 2019, the upcoming series will follow today’s biggest music stars as they revisit the classic hits of legendary Fania Records artists such as Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, Johnny Pacheco, Rubén Blades, Willie Colón, Ismael Rivera, La Lupe and the Fania All-Stars.
The series will follow each artist as they explore Fania’s vast catalog of over 15,000 original master recordings, culminating with the artist creating their own rendition of a Fania classic.
“We are excited to bring together the world’s leading Latin artists and music producers through their shared passion for Fania’s repertoire,” Sergio Pizzolante (“Nicky Jam: El Ganador”), Managing Partner of CTMOBS and executive producer, says.
“This is an exciting opportunity to pay tribute to Fania’s artists and to introduce some of salsa’s all-time greatest hits to new audiences,” adds Fania CEO Stuart Livingston. “We are thrilled to be working with CTMOBS and Sony Music Latin on this series.”
Jorge Granier (Jane The Virgin, Nicky Jam: El Ganador) will executive produce through his Aquarius TV banner. The series is an original concept by Garnier, Mauricio Arcas (formerly of Los Amigos Invisibles) and Sergio Gómez (Orígenes).
“Fania and its artists have made an enormous impact on Latin music that is still felt today. We’re proud to be part of a project that will help preserve this important piece of our musical heritage by keeping it alive and relevant,” said Sony Music US Latin President Nir Seroussi.
The soundtrack for the series will be distributed by Sony Music US Latin. CTMOBS is represented by CAA.
