The post-Christmas sadness may be setting in, but Shakira delivers a message of happiness and positivity in a new ad for Italy’s Costa Cruises.
“What is happiness for me?” the singer muses, seated on the sill of a ship’s portal. “I don’t know, taking a break…I think what we stop doing is as important as what we do.”
Shakira’s third campaign for the cruise line “expresses the emotion of discovering the world through a unique perspective, from the sea,” according to the company’s marketing copy.
The ad’s message could also be taken more personally for Shakira, who had to cancel the first dates for her El Dorado Tour after straining her vocal chords. She has relayed her ordeal to fans on social media, including the news that after prescribed rest until the spring, her tour will begin with 35 new confirmed dates in Europe and the United States, starting June 5 in Cologne.
Shakira’s 2018 ad for Costa Cruises is directed by Jaume de Laiguana, her collaborator on a handful of music videos, including “Chantaje,” “La,La,La” and “Sale el Sol.” The music in the spot is not by Shakira, but instead Raphael Gualazzi, with the clip featuring his version of the bouncy romantic balled “La Mer” by French canción icon Charles Tenet.
