Selena Gomez has been tapped to executive produce an untitled series for Freeform (formerly ABC Family), Billboard has confirmed. The singer and actress joins co-producer Aaron Kaplan on a series inspired by the story of Ana Cobarrubias, a young Latina from East Los Angeles “destined for greatness.”
Covarrubias, who gave a powerful speech at the Zimmer Children’s Museum Discovery Award Dinner in November, will serve as a consultant on the series. Gomez’s mom, Mandy Teefey, will also be involved in the project. “Excited to be working with the amazing Selena Gomez and Mandy Teefey,” Kaplan wrote on Twitter.

The “Hands to Myself” singer will not be starring in the show, which is described as a “Latina Empire” series.
This is not the only upcoming TV project for the former Disney Channel star: It was announced in October that she is attached to executive produce a 13-episode series for Netflix based on the young adult novel 13 Reasons Why.
No premiere date has been announced for either project.
